Auto Clicker Not Working? 8 Causes and Fixes
Eight real reasons a browser auto clicker stops working, how to spot each one, and which ones you can fix.
Comparisons

The best auto clicker extension for Chrome depends on what you need. For full automation with forms, sequences and conditions, Auto Clicker - AutoFill is the most complete. For hotkeys and several fixed click positions, a few popular extensions focus on that. For a small, private tool that repeats clicks on one button you pick, Simple Auto Clicker fits.
We make Simple Auto Clicker, so read this with that in mind. We have tried to describe every extension from its own Chrome Web Store listing and to be clear about where ours falls short. All user counts, ratings and dates below are as shown on each listing when we checked on September 30, 2026. They change over time.
We looked at five things that matter more than a long feature list.
Permissions. Extensions that can read and change data on every website show a warning like "Read and change all your data on all websites" when you install them. Broad access is sometimes needed for advanced features, but it is worth knowing what you are granting.
Privacy. Check the listing's privacy section and whether the developer links a privacy policy. An auto clicker has no need to send your browsing data anywhere.
How it targets clicks. Some extensions click a page element, such as a button. Others click fixed screen coordinates. Element targeting keeps working when the page scrolls or the layout shifts. Coordinates are simpler but can miss.
Interval floor. How short an interval the extension allows, and whether its speed claims are realistic. Chrome's own timer rules limit every extension. Our guide on how fast an auto clicker can click explains why.
Maintenance. When the extension was last updated. Chrome changes over time, and an extension that has not been updated in a long while is more likely to break.

Auto Clicker - AutoFill is closer to a web automation tool than a simple clicker. Its listing describes auto click and auto fill, a delay before each action, retries while an element loads, repeating single actions or groups of actions, and matching sites by URL patterns. It can also fill forms from Google Sheets, scroll to elements, trigger mouse and keyboard events, check inside iframes, back up to Google Drive and start at a set time. It targets elements with XPath.
That power needs broad access. Its manifest (version 5.3.0) asks for access to all http and https sites, plus permissions including scripting, userScripts, identity, alarms and notifications.
Good fit if you want to automate multi-step tasks and do not mind a learning curve.
This Auto Clicker by tesilio is built around hotkeys. The listing says you press Ctrl+Comma to start and Ctrl+Period to stop, with more shortcuts for extra slots. It can click up to three locations at different speeds at the same time, the first slot can follow your cursor, and a click indicator shows where it clicks along with a count. You can change the interval while it runs, and it offers a "Mousedown or Compatibility mode" for pages that react differently to clicks.
Good fit if you want keyboard control and more than one click spot.
The Auto Clicker from the owner of autoclicker.io lists selectable click points on your screen, adjustable click speeds, pre-set click sequences and scheduled clicking at regular intervals. It is one of the few in this list that mentions scheduling and sequences, and it was updated recently.
Good fit if you need a series of clicks or clicks on a schedule.
GG Auto Clicker 1.2 lets you set intervals in units from milliseconds to minutes, choose left or right clicks and single or double clicks, and either run without limit or stop after a set number of clicks. You pick the position by typing coordinates or with a visual picker, and start and stop with Ctrl+Comma and Ctrl+Period. Its listing shows a last update in August 2024, which is older than the others here.
Good fit if you need right clicks, double clicks or a fixed click count.
MT Auto Clicker bundles several tools. Its listing mentions auto clicking with 1 ms intervals and multi-target sequences, auto-scroll, auto-refresh for monitoring pages, form filling with XPath, screen recording and screenshots. It is labeled as a beta. As with any extension, Chrome's timer rules decide how fast clicks can really run, whatever interval you type.
Good fit if you want one extension that also scrolls, refreshes and records.
Simple Auto Clicker does one job: it repeats left clicks on a web page. In Element mode you pick a button, and it keeps clicking that button even if the layout shifts. If the button disappears, it stops rather than clicking something else. In Cursor mode it clicks wherever your pointer is on the page. You can set any interval from 50 ms, or up to 20 clicks per second, and each tab runs its own loop. A pill on the page shows it is running, and the popup lists every running tab with its own Stop button.
It asks for three permissions only: activeTab, scripting and storage. It does not ask for access to all websites, and it collects no data. Our privacy policy spells that out.
The limits are just as clear. It has no hotkeys, no scheduling, no click counts, no sequences and no right or double clicks. It cannot press keys, click captchas, click inside frames from other sites or click Chrome's own pages. It stops when the page reloads. It has fewer users and far fewer ratings than the larger extensions here.
Good fit if you want to click one button or spot repeatedly, with the smallest permission footprint. Our step-by-step Chrome guide shows how to set it up.
OP Auto Clicker, GS Auto Clicker and similar tools are desktop programs for Windows, not Chrome extensions. They can click anywhere on your screen, including games and other programs, but you download and install them. If what you need to click is outside the browser, a desktop app is the right kind of tool. Our guide to auto clickers for PC compares the two approaches.
| If you need | Look at |
|---|---|
| Form filling, conditions and multi-step automation | Auto Clicker - AutoFill |
| Hotkeys and several click spots at once | Auto Clicker (tesilio) |
| Click sequences or scheduled clicking | Auto Clicker (autoclicker.io) |
| Right clicks, double clicks or a fixed number of clicks | GG Auto Clicker 1.2 |
| Scrolling, refreshing and recording in one tool | MT Auto Clicker |
| One button clicked repeatedly, few permissions, no data collected | Simple Auto Clicker |
| Clicks outside the browser | A desktop app, not an extension |

There is no single best one. AutoFill suits complex automation, tesilio's Auto Clicker and GG Auto Clicker suit hotkeys and fixed positions, and Simple Auto Clicker suits repeat clicks on one element with few permissions.
Most are, but check permissions, privacy details and update dates first. Prefer an extension that asks only for what it needs.
Some listings claim much faster intervals. Chrome's timers make very short intervals uneven, and hidden tabs are slowed to about once per second, so real speed is lower than many claims.
No. OP Auto Clicker is a desktop program for Windows. It works outside the browser, while Chrome extensions only work on web pages.
